Avoid construction zone delays
A few strategies to help get through construction zones with a minimum of stress:
- Know where the construction zones are located and allow extra time to get through them.
- Avoid peak travel hours 1-8 p.m. Fridays and Sundays.
- Watch for messages on electronic message boards and signs as you approach major construction zones.
- If a sign says 'Road open for local traffic only', use it only if you live, work, or need to do business within the boundaries of the work zone. It is not to be used by through traffic.
- Slow down, get into the correct lane early, and merge cautiously.
- Stay alert for surprise slow-downs and speed-ups.
- Take a scenic alternate route. Wisconsin Department of Tourism can help. Call 1-(800)-432-TRIP.
- Wisconsin has a tough drunk driving law. If you are arrested for drunk driving, you will lose your license on the spot. Don't drink and drive.
- Buckle up for safety.
