Milwaukee Intermodal Station

WisDOT is proud to announce the Milwaukee Intermodal Station (MIS) received a TOBY Award from the Building Owners and Managers Association of Wisconsin. TOBY stands for The Outstanding Building of the Year. MIS won the statewide contest in the government building category. Criteria includes energy efficiency, community involvement, tenant satisfaction and curb appeal.

The Milwaukee Intermodal Station serves as the "gateway" to downtown Milwaukee. It is an important transportation link for the Milwaukee area allowing more than 1.3 million passengers per year to use the facility to make connections to Amtrak's Hiawatha Service and Empire Builder, as well as to Greyhound and other local and regional bus services, county transit, taxis and personal vehicles.

The facility also offers a variety of amenities, including food service through the All Aboard Café and vending machines, as well as an ATM, free Wi-Fi for waiting passengers, bicycle racks/lockers, and a convenient passenger drop-off lane in the front of the building.

The building also houses Wisconsin Department of Transportation offices, including the State Traffic Operations Center. It also has office space available for lease.

Station location/parking

The station is located at 433 West St. Paul Avenue, Milwaukee.

A 300-space parking lot is just west of the station at 460 West St. Paul. It is operated by Imperial Parking. Parking fees are $6/day (midnight to midnight, not by the hour, i.e. overnight parking will cost $10). Other parking lots and facilities are also nearby.

Amtrak tickets

Passengers using the Milwaukee Intermodal Station can obtain tickets in several ways:

• At the full service counter staffed by Amtrak employees, who can issue tickets for Amtrak's Hiawatha Service, which runs between Milwaukee and Chicago, the Empire Builder, which provides service as far west as Seattle, Washington and Portland, Oregon, and all other Amtrak locations
• By using the Amtrak Quik-Trak (SM) kiosk in the station using a credit card or a debit card. Similar to an automatic teller machine, the Quik-Trak can issue tickets for travel on Hiawatha Service trains and many other Amtrak services. Other Quik-Trak kiosks are located at the Milwaukee Airport Rail station, the Sturtevant station, and the Amtrak station in Chicago.
• On-line via the Amtrak.com.
  • If tickets are purchased in advance, the customer can print the tickets using any Quik-Trak kiosk or by stopping at the staffed service counter. The purchase can also be completed with a credit card or a debit card at any staffed station or by using any Quik-Trak kiosk.

Tickets can also be obtained from any staffed Amtrak station, including downtown Milwaukee, Union Station in downtown Chicago and the Glenview, Illinois station. A $9 surcharge will be assessed if a passenger boards at these or other staffed stations and purchases a ticket aboard the train rather than at the staffed station.

You may also call 1-800-USA-RAIL for tickets by mail or obtain tickets from select travel agencies.

The Amtrak ticket counter is open from 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Connecting to O'Hare airport

• Travelers taking Amtrak's Hiawatha service to Chicago's Union Station have several options to connect to O'Hare international airport. (There is no direct connection between Amtrak's Hiawatha Service or other Amtrak trains and O'Hare Airport.)
• Chicago Transit Authority's Blue Line is a three-block walk south from Union Station. The subway station is located under Congress Parkway/Eisenhower Expressway (the facility is not ADA compliant) $1.75 each way.
• Taxi from Chicago's Union Station to O'Hare. (approximately $40 each way)
• Metra North Central Service commuter trains run to and from Chicago Union Station and O'Hare. The schedule includes nine (9) inbound trains and ten (10) outbound trains, including two outbound trains in the morning and two inbound trains in the afternoon. There is no evening, weekend, or holiday service. A free shuttle bus operates between the airport and Metra's O'Hare Transfer Station (O'Hare Remote Parking Lot F). Intercity bus tickets

From the Greyhound ticket office at the west end of the building, passengers can purchase intercity bus tickets on Greyhound, Lamers, Jefferson Lines, Indian Trails, and Coach USA buses, which connect to locations in Wisconsin and Upper Michigan.

The Greyhound ticket office is open from 6:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. and from 3:30 a.m. until 4:00 a.m.
